The steps to prevent this plant from wilting immediately.
Here we are, the first poinsettias are slowly being given away. But the moment you receive one, you know you won’t have the slightest idea how to care for it.
Don’t let it get you down! It’s a very delicate plant, it’s normal to encounter some difficulties.
But with these tips you can keep them healthy.
- We call it a poinsettia, but it doesn’t like harsh climates. It is native to Central America and grows well when temperatures are mild.
- In domestic environments, it is good to keep the poinsettia in a controlled climate between 20 and 25 degrees . It should be kept away from heat sources and doors and windows to avoid sudden changes in temperature.
- Choose a sufficiently bright point and do not move it, at most turn it regularly on itself so that light falls on each side.
- The universal soil is more than fine, also add garden sand to avoid water stagnation .
- Only water your seedling when the soil is completely dry.
- When it starts to lose its leaves , cut all the stems 10 cm from the base. To prevent sap from leaking from the branches, blot with absorbent paper or cover the cut part with charcoal powder.
- If you plan to repot your poinsettia, be sure to do so in May . This is the time when the plant will show new signs of growth.
- In summer, add a few drops of fertilizer to the water you use for watering.
If you follow these rules, you can admire a new bloom in September.
