In anticipation of the planting season, I decided to conduct a fascinating experiment that, although simple, took time. I was interested in the answer to the question: Can tomato seeds from the regular store germinate in the same way as specialized seedling seeds, or are they genetically modified to be no longer viable?
Two weeks ago I bought four tomatoes from a local store. At home I chose the ripest one and cut it into pieces. He took a piece from the middle of the tomato and put it in a pot with soil, filled it and watered it, hoping for a miracle.



The next day I found cherry tomatoes in the fridge. They had been in the plastic cup for quite a while and were starting to wrinkle.
Deciding that they were no longer useful, I planted them as well as lucky charms, repeated the process and placed the pot under a phytolamp.



A week later, the first outbreaks appeared. By the afternoon of April 7, they were already noticeable and by the morning they had completely disappeared. New shoots were sprouting every day. It was incredible!


Unfortunately, I didn’t know what kind of tomato it was. Cherry trees also sprouted successfully, albeit less. But their growth rate was comparable to that of other tomato sprouts.
After five days, the shoots had grown noticeably and were ready to be replanted.
In a pot of cherry tomatoes, some of the shoots stopped growing, leaving only four healthy shoots.
I plan to plant the strongest plants in a greenhouse in the cottage and continue the experiment. Imagine my surprise when they bear fruit!
Today I transplanted the shoots into separate pots.
I will probably give one to my friends since I don’t need that many tomatoes. I also decided to play it safe and plant another tomato variety from proven seed in case of unforeseen circumstances.
