Geraniums are a real treasure for a flower lover, because they delight us with their flowering all year round: from early spring to late autumn they decorate the garden, and in winter they find shelter and warmth at home. Since ancient times, their healing properties have been valued as a natural remedy for wound healing, so in some Slavic cultures they even received the name “Zdravitsa”.

This flower is a reliable protection against various insect pests, thanks to which it protects the rest of the plants in the garden and on the windowsill. In addition, geraniums help create an atmosphere of calm in the house – thanks to essential oils that calm the nervous system and eliminate headaches.

In addition, geraniums impress with their decorativeness: they delight with the abundance of flowers and the saturation of the tones of their inflorescences. But in order to fully enjoy all the advantages of this plant, you need to know the intricacies of its care, especially important is transplanting in the autumn from open ground into the pot.

The stages of care are as follows: abundant watering of geraniums until the moisture is absorbed into the soil. Then carefully remove the plant along with the earthen ball. We transfer the plant to a pot of suitable size with a high-quality drainage system. After re-watering, remove faded flowers, excess shoots and dry foliage. Pruning is mandatory so that the plant pleases with lush and abundant flowering next year.

Geraniums are usually cut in half. If it is significantly warmer in the house than outside, it is recommended to place the plant in a cooler place, such as a balcony, for a few days. After that, geraniums are placed in a bright place because they love sunlight, without which their leaves and flowers will become smaller.

If there is a lack of daylight, geraniums need additional artificial light. It is important to regularly turn the pot to different sides towards the light so that the plant develops evenly. In winter, watering is moderate – 1-2 times a week is enough.
