To repel pests, you can make a natural and inexpensive insecticide right at home. Let’s see how.

Homemade insecticide

A homemade insecticide is a strategy that not only saves you money but is also safe if you have children or pets.

Homemade insecticide: what is it for?

Natural and non-toxic: The  homemade spray insecticide could be effective in repelling various types of insects. Because as soon as summer returns, insects are ready to invade the garden and, unfortunately, patios and houses. However, buying chemical insecticides is not always a good idea. In fact, they could harm people’s health and that of the garden.

Fortunately, this can be remedied by making a natural,  non-toxic  spray insecticide that all pests hate. This homemade spray is very easy to make. All you need is essential oils. It can be applied directly to plants, for example those that are infested with aphids. Let’s see how to prepare it.

What to use?

Now let’s get to the preparation of this natural insecticide. You will need 500 ml of  water, 500 ml of  witch hazel  (which you can find in herbal medicine), 10 drops of  essential oils  of spearmint and peppermint (for ants). Then you will need a vaporizer, preferably made of glass. The first thing to do is fill the sprayer with half a liter of water. Then add the witch hazel. Add 5 drops of each  essential oil  . Shake the mixture well and spray it directly on the plants. You will see that insects, such as ants, will run away immediately.

This homemade spray is therefore  adaptable to any type of parasite . In fact, against each insect there is an effective blend of essential oils. Simply change the essential oils from the recipe above. For example, against aphids, the essential oils to use are: cedarwood, fennel, spearmint, peppermint. Against beetles: peppermint and thyme.

Essential oils

If fleas are infested, use peppermint, lemongrass, spearmint, lavender. Are flies your concern? Use lavender, peppermint, rosemary, sage. Against mosquitoes, mix patchouli and spearmint. Cedarwood, peppermint, spearmint are useful against lice

Now let’s move on to the insect that torments us the most in summer  : mosquitoes , which can be countered with lavender and lemongrass. Moths do not tolerate cedar, fennel, lavender, peppermint, mint. Spearmint and peppermint can counteract psyllids. Snails do not tolerate essential oils of cedar, fennel and pine. For snails: cedar, pine, patchouli instead against spiders: peppermint and spearmint. Finally, ticks can be countered with lavender, lemongrass, sage and thyme.

Essential oils are found in herbal medicine, even in packages containing different oils.
