If you want to avoid using mineral fertilizers when feeding your tomatoes, I have a natural alternative for you. Recently, a neighbor recommended that I make a dry mix of various natural ingredients that perfectly nourishes the tomatoes during the flowering and ripening period.
The first ingredient is common wood ash, which has been helping gardeners for a long time. Wood ash contains phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc, sulfur and other substances in the form of oxides that are quickly absorbed by plant roots. For the mixture I use 1 kilogram of ash.
2nd ingredient: ground eggshells. It is important to use ground shells and not just crushed shells. The ground shells gradually release calcium, which helps prevent diseases such as apical rot. In addition, the shell loosens the soil, improves its breathability and changes the structure of the clay soil, making it less acidic. I take a 1-liter jar of ground shells.
3rd ingredient: Mustard cake. I usually use mustard pulp to feed cucumbers, but it’s also great for tomatoes. Not only is it a good source of nutrition, but it also helps cleanse the soil of fungal diseases such as gray mold, root rot, and late blight. Mustard pulp decomposes quickly and provides plants with nutrients that promote healthy growth. I need 1 kilo of mustard cake.
All ingredients are mixed well and then evenly distributed in the greenhouse in the root zone. After that, the soil around the tomatoes is well watered so that the fertilizer begins to work.
