Old sponges used to grow plants

sponge and soil

Old sponges that support  plants  . We show some methods to recycle them and bring benefits to plants. You can use them by making a  mixture of soil and sponges  :

  • Cut the sponge cake into small pieces
  • mixing with soil
  • Create a mix that will be the basis for cuttings (50% sponge and 50% soil) or for plants that need moist but aerated soil, such as Pothos (1/3 sponge and 2/3 soil)
  • When the two compositions are mixed, fill a container pierced at the bottom with the mixture and place the cuttings
  • Begossen
  • Seal the jar in a plastic bag
  • Place it in light, but not in direct rays

In addition, you can use the sponge to  germinate a seed , such as that of the lemon:

  • Remove seeds from the inside of the lemon
  • Cut the sponge cake in half
  • Open one of the two halves, but do not cut it completely, leave the bottom closed and the end open
  • Within the cut, which is made with the help of tweezers in the sponge insert, the seeds, 4 or 5
  • Close the sponge and place it in a container of water

After two weeks, the seeds will have germinated, developed a root system and a small sprout. At this point, they only need to be stopped in a pot with a diameter of at least 10 centimeters with the soil that is good for citrus fruits. Here, make a hole to introduce the seed. The foresight is to put the root down and the sprout up, cover abundantly and moisten. At this point, you just need a little patience, after a few months, about three months, the plant will be at least 5 centimeters high.

  • Open the sponge and insert the branch so that it is almost completely covered
  • Close the sponge and place it in a glass with 3-4 centimeters of water on the bottom
  • Check the state of the art after about two weeks
  • When the roots are long, you can stick the branch into the soil
