Old and yellowed orchid: here is the antioxidant ingredient to revive it in no time. You won’t believe your eyes.

Orchids

As  a tropical plant  accustomed to humid heat, the orchid plant does not prefer too much water, which leads to rotting of leaves and roots. The orchid, like any other plant grown at home, has its own natural life cycle. The  causes  that lead to yellowing of the leaves are different: over time, the orchid’s roots no longer nourish the lower leaves, which tend to turn yellow and then fall off permanently.  Yellowed leaves  should never be removed or cut off: the risk of leaf diseases increases exponentially. In case the leaves dry out completely, you can remove them from the stem without causing any damage.

Orchid with yellow leaves: direct exposure should be avoided

Being a tropical plant, the orchid does not need too much  direct sunlight , but prefers indirect sunlight. For this reason, it would be a good idea to place the orchid in shaded areas, perhaps under the thick foliage of trees. Direct sunlight and heat exposure can damage the leaves of the annual perennial plant.

Old and yellowed orchid: here’s where to place it

Where to place the orchid ? A good tip would be to place the plant near a north-facing window during the summer season and a south-facing window during the winter season. To avoid direct exposure to the sun, it is a good idea to add a curtain to the window.

Yellowing orchid at the end of its life cycle: what temperature do you prefer?

The   orchid’s preferred  temperature is between fifteen and 25 degrees Celsius.  The plant undergoes an oxidative process if it is placed in environments with temperatures that are too high or too cold. Heat stress can accelerate the death of the plant.

Yellowing orchid at the end of its life cycle: avoid overwatering

Too much water  accelerates the yellowing process of orchid leaves and may cause root rot. Overwatering can prevent the plant from absorbing nutrients from the soil.

Yellow and dying orchid: this is the ingredient you should use

To give your orchid a second life and counteract the yellowing process of the plant, it is good to use a tablespoon  of turmeric powder . It is a  powerful antioxidant  that allows you  to disinfect rotten roots.  The powder obtained from the grinding of cultivars belonging to the Zingiberaceae  family  can be mixed with a little water and sprayed on the yellowed leaves.

The solution containing turmeric powder can also be sprayed directly onto the roots. In case the flowers fall off, it is possible  to fertilize the plant  to encourage its growth and development.
