Make a balm of bay leaf and rosemary infused in olive oil – a natural remedy for bone pain and varicose veins

Do you suffer from varicose veins or joint pain? Have you tried various creams and ointments without success? Discover a simple and effective natural remedy: an infusion of laurel and rosemary in olive oil. This homemade balm relieves pain and reduces inflammation, offering a natural alternative to chemical treatments.

Olive oil: a natural anti-inflammatory

Olive oil is much more than just a culinary ingredient. It acts as a healing balm for the skin, bones and joints. Used in physiotherapy, it is known for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, without side effects.

Studies have shown that olive oil mimics the action of medications like ibuprofen and piroxicam. For example, 4 tablespoons of olive oil is equivalent to 10% of the adult dose of ibuprofen for pain relief. This effect is due to a unique compound called  oleocanthal , which inhibits inflammatory mediators (prostaglandins). To check the quality of your olive oil, taste it: if it stings your throat slightly, it is rich in oleocanthal.

A 2020 clinical study confirmed that olive oil massage reduces pain, inflammation, and joint stiffness in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, with efficacy comparable to that of Piroxicam gel or paraffin oil, but without adverse effects.

Enhance olive oil with bay leaf and rosemary

By combining olive oil with anti-inflammatory herbs like bay leaf and rosemary, you get a powerful natural lotion to relieve various types of pain.

The benefits of laurel

Bay leaf is rich in anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds. It contains:

  • Sesquiterpene lactones ,  which inhibit excessive production of nitric oxide, a key mediator of inflammation.
  • Cineole  , which blocks activation of the inflammasome, a structure involved in inflammatory responses .

The benefits of rosemary

Rosemary is a natural antinociceptive, capable of reducing pain without side effects. It contains compounds such as:

  • Carnosol   and carnosic acid , which act on inflammatory pathways.
  • Cineole  ,  camphor  and  pinene , known for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties .

Rosemary essential oil is often recommended for muscle and joint pain.
