Today, I’m sharing a simple and inexpensive way to clean and shine your metal objects at home. This recipe uses ingredients that you probably already have at home, such as toothpaste, detergent, salt, and lemon. Follow the steps to discover how to make this effective homemade cleaner!

Ingredients needed:

  • 1 generous tablespoon of toothpaste (even expired or poor quality)
  • 200 ml of lukewarm water
  • 200 ml of detergent (avoid multi-purpose detergents)
  • 2 tablespoons of table salt
  • The juice of one lemon (preferably a Taiti lemon, but any type of lemon will do)

Preparation steps:

  1. Dilute the toothpaste  : In a container, add the tablespoon of toothpaste. Gradually pour in the 200 ml of warm water while mixing to dissolve the toothpaste well. This acts as a super activator for the recipe.
  2. Add detergent  : Measure 200 ml of detergent using a measuring cup and add it to the mixture. Preferably use a clear detergent for best results.
  3. Stir in salt  : Add 2 tablespoons of table salt. Mix well until the toothpaste is completely dissolved. The salt enhances the effectiveness of the cleaner.
  4. Squeeze the lemon  : Add the juice of one medium lemon. Lemon has degreasing properties and helps give metal surfaces an exceptional shine.
  5. Mix the solution  : Stir well until you get a foamy and homogeneous consistency. Your cleaner is ready to use!

Application :

  • On metal surfaces  : Use a scouring pad (like a Bombril) and apply the solution to the object to be cleaned (aluminum pans, stainless steel, etc.). No need to rub hard: the secret is to pass the solution several times to obtain an optimal shine.
  • Result  : You will quickly see the dirt and grease disappear, leaving behind a sparkling metal. For stubborn stains (such as glue marks), you can use a specific solvent.

Conservation :

You can store the rest of the solution in a vial or plastic bottle. No need to refrigerate it!
