Do you really want to grow rosemary at home but don’t know where to start? Did you know that it is not necessary to have the seed, but you can also use a branch taken from a seedling already formed? Let’s see together how to do it with a few simple steps and three different methods to experiment with, each of which is infallible!
To begin with, we choose a cutting that is no more than 2 years old and a thick cutting of 2-3 millimeters, which will be taken from our seedling. Branches that are too young, flexible or too old, robust will not take root.
It must be 15 cm long and to do this we will use scissors by cutting diagonally to the trunk to expand the surface that can absorb water. Then we will extract the lower leaves and the cutting will be ready to be rooted.
Propagation by cuttings (method 1)
The first method involves using water for rooting. We immerse the cutting in a glass with about 2 cm of water and after 20 days the first roots should appear. We can of course try more attempts together to have a better chance of success. Let’s remember to change the water every two days.

Alternatively, we can put the cutting in a small glass with a mixture of 80% peat and 20% river sand. We put the cutting in and then spray the soil. Now, to encourage rooting, we will create a greenhouse effect.
We put the glass in a sunny place, but not in direct sunlight. And we always check that the soil is always moist. If it dries out, the plant could die. After about 4 months, the seedling will have started to grow.

Finally, it can be propagated by seeds. The seeds are found in the flowers of the plant after they have wilted and the petals have fallen.
Take a glass with a diameter of at least 10 cm and pour the seeds. With a fork we press down and rake the soil a little. Then we close with a bag. We water abundantly. After 10 days the first seedlings will appear. In this case too, let’s remember to expose it in a bright place and moisten the soil often. And when the first seedlings have appeared, we can divide them into many small glasses.
